Author Biography

Elizabeth Tavella, The American University of Rome

Elizabeth Tavella is a scholar of environmental humanities and multispecies studies whose research and teaching interests span from global ecologies and critical animal studies to contemporary speculative fiction, liberation histories, and queer theory. Elizabeth has held a postdoctoral teaching fellowship and a research position at the University of Chicago, with affiliations in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures and the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality, as well as teaching appointments at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and The University of Illinois (UIC). In addition to publishing peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on the sociocultural dimensions of multispecies relations through the lens of comparative media, Elizabeth is currently finalizing a monograph under contract on geographies of interspecies confinement. Elizabeth is also the co-editor of Animated Wor(l)ds, a forthcoming multimedia digital publication with Radish Press and the special issue of Trace: Journal for Human-Animal Studies on radical kinship and multispecies biopolitical resistance. Elizabeth currently teaches in the Department of English Writing, Literature and Publishing at the American University of Rome.
