Dr. Jonathan Butler’s doctoral training at the University of Toronto was in historiographic metafiction. His scholarly interests since receiving his doctorate (2001) have expanded to include the fields of ecocriticism and metarhetoric. Recent publications (2011-12) include “Pure Persuasion: Metarhetorical Motives in Kenneth Burke’s Towards a Better Life” (University of Toronto Quarterly), “The Silence Beyond Names: Towards a Green Poetics/Politics” (NTU Studies in Language and Literature), “Poetry of the Planet, by the Planet, and for the Planet: a Global Manifesto for Being Here” (Tamkang Review).  He teaches American Literature and Composition at Soochow University in Taipei, Taiwan, where he holds a post as an assistant professor.
