Ellen Arnold is an Assistant Professor of History at Ohio Wesleyan University and is a former fellow of the Rachel Carson Center in Munich. Her first book, Negotiating the Landscape: Environment and Monastic Identity in the Medieval Ardennes (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2012), focuses on the intersections of religion, economy, and landscape to explore the early medieval environmental imagination. Her current project explores early medieval ideas about rivers and river resources in Gaul and Germany, with a particular attention to religious narratives and ecocritical approaches.
