Author Biography

Damini Bhattacharya, University of Southampton

Damini Bhattacharya is a PhD candidate in English at the University of Southampton, UK, and a Wolfson scholar. Her doctoral thesis challenges accounts that marginalise women's roles and contributions in the Naxalite movement in West Bengal, India. Her research interests include analysing contemporary Indian literature from the lens of subaltern, feminist and Indian postcolonial studies. Her first academic article "Cultural Expectations and Gendered Roles: Identity Formations in Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Lowland" was published in the IAFOR Journal of Arts & Humanities in 2022.
