José Manuel Marrero Henríquez published his first short stories in the literary pages of the local press of his place of birth, the Canary Islands, in 1985. He was a finalist of the First International Prize of Humour Short Stories sponsored by Prólogo. Revista del Lector in 1990, and he was awarded the Montblanc Prize of Literature in the Canary Islands in 1993. His short stories have been published in Por venir de la nada (1995), in literary journals such as Encuentros, Revista de Literatura, Postmodern Notes, La Plazuela de las Letras, Anarda, and Al-Jarafish, in collaborations for catalogs of art exhibitions, and in a variety of interdisciplinary artistic projects. He has recently published the book of poems entitled Reversos ejemplares (2010). José Manuel Marrero Henríquez is also the author of a number of essays on Spanish and Spanish American Literature, genre conventions, ethics, and criticism. He has co-edited Ecocríticas. Literatura y medioambiente (Iberoamericana 2010) and has recently published  “Literary Waters in a Dry Spain” (ISLE 2011), and “Turistas en el edén. La evolución literaria del paraíso” (Revista de Literatura 2012). He has the  article “Pertinencia de la ecocrítica” forthcoming in 2014 (Revista de Crítica Literaria Latinoamericana), and at the present time he is editing Transatlantic Landscapes. Environmental Awareness, Literature, and the Arts. His research interests include Francisco González Díaz´s works, the literary representation of landscape, ecocriticism, and the impact of tourism and environmental policies in literary landscapes. José Manuel Marrero Henríquez is Professor of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
