This essay reviews Shiloh Krupar's Hot Spotter’s Report: Military Fables of Toxic Waste (University of Minnesota Press, 2013) and Jacob Darwin Hamblin's Arming Mother Nature: The Birth of Catastrophic Environmentalism (Oxford University Press, 2013).

Nicole Seymour works at the intersection of environmental studies and gender/sexuality studies. She is Assistant Professor of English at California State University, Fullerton. Her first book is Strange Natures: Futurity, Empathy, and the Queer Ecological Imagination (University of Illinois Press, 2013).
